Print Making Session 1

For my first session of printmaking, we began to go through the steps of printmaking. Afterwards, we all was given a metal plate (zinc). Then we was given tools such as; craving tool, filer and a spoon. Before we could do anything, we had to file and smooth all the corners and edges on our metal plate. Furthermore, we were given A2 paper and had to design up to 4 drawings for a design on our metal plate. I only designed one drawing which was a Eagle tattoo. Then, once my design was fully completed, i was ready to put that design onto my plate. Firstly, by tracing my design onto a piece of tracing paper and then tracing it onto the metal plate. Secondly, i used my craving tool by scratching over my image again. Also etch into areas which are dark. And the place the plate into a tray of acid, for at least 3-5 minutes. Then clean the metal plate with a liquid which removes all the dirt and scratches off the plate.

A-Z Evaluation

My team all came to the decision, to split the letters of the alphabet between 4 of us. At one point we did ask one another how we were going to set out our sheets. Then afterwards, we all took off and did our sheets individually. I strongly believe that my time managed in this project was good. Because once the task was set, i completed the task within a week. During this project i have discovered one artist and one artist movement that i have never heard before which are; Barnett Newman and the artist movement called Pointillism. Barnett Newman's work wasn't really interesting to me because his work is all basic square shaped, similar to a tile. Also in my opinion his work doesn't look appealing. Pointillism is my favorite for this project. Because it is something what you wouldn't see everyday. And the colors are so bright, the movement brings out the image more in my opinion. I didn't really plan how i was going to set out my pages. I already knew what i was going to do. Such as; Title at the top of the page. Then my re-created image in the middle and then information below. For the artists and art movement i had chosen. I tried repeating the image, exactly how the artist has done. But the media what they have used, i wasn't able to use that media. Because i didn't have the media required. So instead i mixed it up by using different media like felt tips, coloured pencils, watercoloured paints. I agree that some of my pages are up to the best standard but maybe a thew could be change better. Also the time we were given to do this task was good amount of time for me. I feel that i could improve on experimenting little more into media. Because within my work i use the same media. My group didn't really work as a team. Because we all decided and wanted to do our sheets individually. Then once we all got our sheets completed, we came back together in the group and decided how we were presenting our work. There were no issues during this project. I believe that this task has helped me more with my confidence also presenting my work to other members in my group. Because i don't feel comfortable and positive showing my work to others and speaking about it. Also this task has given me confidence to take part in group activities more. My overall satisfaction towards this project is okay. Because in my opinion this task was more set out for children. I wouldn't have mind to do visual sheets, were you re-create a image from that artist or movement then analyse the page with information. I did find that working in a group wasn't really for me. Because i perfer to have work set for me then go do it individually.
