3D Workshop Sculpture making

Today's lesson in the 3D Workshop, we began by going through all the health and saftey when in the workshop and using the equipment. Such as; when using the drill always wear goggels (provided) also when girls use the drill they must always tie their hair back. When using various tools like; saw and filer you need to be careful with how you use them because with a saw someone could cut their fingers and with a filer they could easily break if not used properly. For my model i just went along with certain pieces i chosen, i didn't have no plan or wasn't told what to make. In my opinion it was alot better creating things in our own way and choices instead of being told what to make.

(Tuesday) 3D Triangle Model making

This lesson was all about creating a 3D model out of triangles. Firstly, i began with A2 card and started to cut triangle shapes at one of the corners with a ruler and a craft knife. My triangle shapes i started to cut was too small, so i had to start cutting them bigger so it would save time and my model would be completed before the lesson finished. I wasn't really intrested or happy with this lesson and the model i was creating, because i was sticking the triangles in any place they looked okay at. Furthermore, creating a 3D model out of triangles isnt't something i would like to do.

3D Workshop Final Design Sheet

In today's 3D workshop lesson, i finished off all 3 of my research sheets on modern architecture such as; chosen architecture artist (Tom Fruin), Barnsley modern architecture sheet and finally randomly chosen modern buildings. Once all 3 sheets completed, i then had to start my design sheet on what my building will look like. I did manage to finish my design sheet (as shown below) then i was told to do another one but this time time only showing my design from all different angles.

3D Workshop week 1

For our first week at 3D workshop, we began by looking at 3D pop out card templates. Which were a basic square with longer, shorter rectangles put together but in different places. On the sheet there was a diagram explaining what to do and how to create a pop out card with three pictures of different lines such as:
. Straight black line - cut line
. Black dotted line - valley line
. Black road line - mountain line

Firstly, we started off with the easy pop out template which was a small rectangle with a line going down it. Because the lines represent where you fold it. But they're all different lines. In my opinion it was quite hard trying to fold especially, inside the rectangles because then my pop out card looked a mess. In the lesson there were 1 to 10 templates we had to do. I only managed to get to 8 because the templates took alot of time to cut, perfect over the lines.

I did try very hard with the pop out cards and did very well to say ave never done it before. Once i got onto my 5th template the lesson started to get boring. Because, i was getting restless and tired of doing the same template. I think if there were different templates like; hearts, stars, flowers. Then, the lesson would be more intresting for me.

Observational Drawing Evalution

I started off by stretching A3 paper onto a board. Once my paper was dry, i then decided which background to start with like we was shown. There were brown paper, newspaper and black paper for the first. Secondly, was ink. Thirdly, black tissue paper. Lastly, white emulsion. Once all these backgrounds was completed. I then began to start drawing from an observational set up, used from various objects we were given. Starting with the first background (brown paper, newspaper, black paper) i decided to use that as a practice, just so i knew what i was doing. The choice of objects i started with the easiest and smaller objects. But then, gradually changed my objects to a bigger standard and harder to draw so i could challenge myself. For this project i didn't use a view finder at all. Because i strongly believe that am more confident and positive at producing a observational drawing by looking at the objects then sketching them onto my page. The only problem i had throughout this project was for my final piece. Because i wanted my final piece to be different, colorful and creative. So i decided to have my background in ink, because it's looks effective with a lot of colors. But the time we was given wasn't good to me. Because there were a lot of ink to dry and i had to use the hairdryer. And i was told to dab the wet areas, so i have time to get my final piece done. But i strongly believe that if i didn't dab the wet ink and just let it dried then it would have turned out exactly how i wanted it to. Once, i dabbed the wet areas the colours turned dark and horrible. So i decided to put some white emulsion over the areas i didn't like and put some black tissue paper around some other areas. To be quite honest, i wasn't really impressed with the final piece i produced and would have been happier drawing the observation first then doing a background after. While working on this project i didn't take much notice on blogger every piece of work i did them lessons. Because, there would be odd little times where i would forget to take photos and upload to my blog with me being busy into my work and trying to get it finished. Other reason will be is that, i hate blogger every piece of work i do. I like doing the work that has been set then write either on the sheet about what i did. Or just blog my evauluation's when needed. Because, am more of a drawing then a blogger to me and my opinion. I think my strongest drawing was black tissue paper. Because, i strongly agree that i did a very good job on getting every detail in my objects i chose also the colours and techique of colouring i did. If i was given more time for final piece, i would have finished and created a brilliant final piece. The media i used for this project was; coloured pencils (ordinary) for three of my drawings. Then for my last drawing was just ordinary pencil. The media i found difficult using was the ink for my background. Because the colours didnt go exactly how i wanted and sometimes i put too much on so it wasted time for me.

Jewellery Workshop

This is my work i produced in Jewellery
Workshop. Here you will see pieces of different metals, which i used for
Embossing, Etching and piercing out.
At the start of the lesson, i made various Embossing and
Etching samples. Then, finished off by creating a piercing out sample.
For piercing out, i wrote my name onto the metal then used a cutting out tool with a small metal blade. Before, i could start piercing out. i had to use the drill to drill small holes in each corners of the letters so that i could put through the small metal blade then tighten it at the end.
I did enjoy piercing out because it was intresting but once you started to do it for 20 minutes or so your arms and hands began to hurt.

How to make a Collagraph Relief Print

Preparation Choose the best composition from all sheet work. Trace it and transfer it onto thick card (mill board) base. Once image is on the plate decide which areas you want to build up using thin card or cartridge paper cut out shapes. Different textures can also he used it appropriate. The surface needs to be slightly built up into layers which show relief. It is important not to build up too high as you find that your plate does not register when printed. Make sure that all objects and surfaces on the plate are placed and sealed with PVA. When your satisfied with the results, put a white coat of emulsion or gesso on top. Once dried, coat it with clear vanish to seal the top of plate. Then at this point you can add extra texture using salt or sand grains. Printing . Prepare and dampen paper in water, roll it between layers of blotting paper. . Ink plate. Rough paint brushes can be used to push the ink into the groves. . Use rag or newspaper to wipe off excess ink and slightly polish the plate. . Place your plate onto clean newsprint on the center of printing bed. . Cover with damp paper, sheet of newsprint and blanket on top. . Wind through the printing bed without stopping. . Allow print to air dry by placing it on the drying rack. Healthy & Safety . Use apron to protect clothes. . Rubber gloves to be worn when working with ink. . Long hair or any scarfs must be tucked away. . Clean all equipment and slabs with vegetable oil or turps using rags . Leave working area clean and tidy.
